Determine responsibility for water service

The water district is responsible for:

  • The disctrict’s outlet-side meter coupling.
  • The underground connection to the water main at the street, called a corportation or corp stop.
  • The service line from the main to the inlet side shut off valve, called a curb stop or angle stop. Also includes the U-branch, if present.
  • The water meter, water meter box, and meter box lid.
  • Generally, everything that is brass inside of the meter box.

The customer is responsible for:

  • The connection to the district’s outlet-side meter coupling.
  • The customer service line that takes water from the meter to the house.
  • The house valve, used to shut off water service at the home. Usually on the side of the house, but may also be in the garage.
  • All plumbing fixtures inside and outside the house.
